What is the role of a Postpartum Doula?

The role of a Postpartum Doula is to be "NEAR" her clients offering support:

N is for "NURTURE": She nurtures the family with her loving heart and hands and meets them where they are, offering them non-judgmental support.

E is for "EDUCATE": She educates the family by modeling behavior, observing, and offering options.

A is for "ASSESS": She is constantly assessing the environment in order to assist the family.

R if for "REFER": She provides resources and referrals to families and assists them to develop the skills to seek out resources and referrals (DONA International, 2013).
